 If you really like the candidate, after your first interview, give them a copy of the book. Tell them to read the book. It will give them the good and bad about owning their own agency. The book will either excite them, or it will make them very concerned. My experience has shown that your candidate will come back more excited than ever before!

Tell them that during the second interview you are going to ask them how, if you offered them this position, would they get their business started. In addition, you are going to ask them what their business is going to look like once it’s completed. Believe me when I say this, your candidates will be more enlightened and excited than ever before.

A very good friend of mine in Colorado was hesitant about handing the book out early in the recruiting process. None-the-less, he was trying to recruit an extremely talented individual to no avail. Seeing that his candidate was not making a commitment, he gave him a copy of the book. My dm friend contacted me one late Friday afternoon and said, “Jeff, I had to call you and tell you thanks.
